Stones sit sunk between two walls of metal with nothing proud of the surface, so a channel band snags very little. The trade-off is that the walls restrict how far the ring can be resized. Have the setting checked every 12 to 18 months.

The channel walls run along the top of the band; opening or closing the shank more than one size distorts them and loosens the stones.
