Oval Solitaire 0.60 ct — Lab-grown, 18ct goldLab-grown diamond

Both origins of this design are photographed from the same frame with the same lighting, so the photograph is not doing any of the arguing.

Switching origin changes the price and the issuing laboratory. Nothing else about the ring changes.

The metal and its hallmark

The statutory exemption for this metal is 1 g. At 3.4 g this ring is over it, so under the Hallmarking Act 1973 it may not be described as precious metal unless it is hallmarked. It is. How to read the marks

How the stones are held

SettingClaw (prong)

Claws hold the stone from above, which lets in the most light but leaves the metal proud of the band. Claws can catch on knitwear and soften with years of wear. Have the setting checked every 12 to 18 months.

Sizing and resizing

ResizingYes, plus or minus 2 sizes

We do not claim that any ring is guaranteed to fit. Measure in the afternoon and measure more than once. UK sizes in millimetres

Skin contact

Nickel-safe: nickel release is tested to UK REACH limits of 0.5 micrograms per square centimetre per week for items in prolonged contact with the skin. Lead and cadmium are within the limits set by the same regulation.

We do not describe any item as hypoallergenic. That word is not a permitted description and would tell you nothing measurable.

Living with it

Take the ring off for the gym, gardening, swimming and household cleaning. Warm water, a drop of washing-up liquid and a soft brush is enough. Keep it away from bleach and chlorine.

Have the setting checked every twelve to eighteen months. No setting holds a stone permanently and we do not tell you otherwise.

Natural and lab-grown compared

Side by sideOval Solitaire 0.60 ctA natural diamond and a laboratory-grown diamond are the same material: the same chemistry, the same hardness, the same optical behaviour. They differ in how they formed and in what the market charges for them. Both are shown here with the same specifications and the same photograph, and this shop takes no position on which you should choose.
